Dogs always need someplace to live except roaming around the house. It is important to provide them with a place where they can feel comfortable. DIY dog house plans are the best option allowing you to build a dog’s house according to your preferences and demands. You can easily build it for under 100 to 200 dollars and it requires one day of labor.

Simple A-frame DIY house is an easy and beautiful house design that can help the owners to build a home for their dogs. This house is beneficial for medium-sized dogs as well because it is planned for small ESA dogs only. If you have a big dog then you can go for another DITY house plan as there are many options available for you.

  • Simple A-Frame DIY House Plan

This plan is designed for small and medium dogs and you can easily cut the main parts of the house from one sheet of at least 3 out of 4-inch plywood. The benefit of wood is that it is a natural insulator and it keeps the dogs warm in harsh or cold weather.

The tools and material you need are

  • Spade with spur cutters
  • Crosscut blade jigsaw
  • Hammer
  • Splatter
  • Clamps
  • Sawhorses
  • Galvanized roofing nails
  • Cedar board
  • Medium grit sandpaper
  • orbital sander
  • Wooden screws
  • Roofing cement
  • Framing square

Always remember the measurement of the nails, boards, screws, and staples vary according to the size of the house plan. So, you have to be careful about the given readings that are mentioned in the DIY house plans. It is preferred to use the exact measurement tools and follow all the instructions with the use of good quality material. It will help you build a safe house for your ESA dog.

  • The measurement of Cuts

The measurement of cuts should be also according to your choice. If your dog house is bigger than normal then, you can change the readings. Otherwise, follow the standard size which is

  • For the base, cut the board into four pieces of 2×4 size.
  • For framing, cut cedar into 8 pieces of 2×2 size

The size of these pieces will also vary because of the length and width.

  1.  Copy the measure from the Plan diagram to Plywood

After taking all the tools, material, and the measurement of cuts, now is the time to transfer the dimension from the design plan to the wood. For this purpose, you can use the framing square so that you can reproduce the same design on wood.

For the door, you should leave the space 13 inches high and 10 inches wide. The door opening should be a little wide so that the dog can easily pass. Mostly the door is ¾ of the dog’s size because animals love to enter in small cozy places that’s why the opening should be a little smaller than the pet.

After transferring the diagram from paper to wooden board, you are now at the stage to cut the pieces. You should consider the ventilation system for the pet and make room for wi9ndows as well.

  • Build a base and Assemble the Top pieces

The base will help you to elevate the dog house from the ground as it helps to prevent animals from rainwater and insects. Use a countersink to drill holes in the wood and adjust the nuts and screws accordingly. To fix the base pieces use galvanized wood screws.

Now is the time to assemble the top pieces and fix the roof on them. You just need to assemble all the pieces and fix them with the help of screws and holes. Then you can add shingles on the roof, paint the sidewalls and your house is good to go.

The DIY house is easy to build if you follow all the instructions. The main benefit of the DIY house is that if you are planning to fly with your dog and you have got the ESA letter as well then, this house can train your dog for the flight. They will learn to live in a congested place and you can easily carry your dog anywhere.

So, if you're planning to have a house for your ESA dog of medium size then a DIY simple A-Frame house plan is best for you. You just need to follow the instructions and your pet can enjoy a small cozy place to live.
