In these regards, when getting into the process of exploration of  Microbiology research topics for postgraduate, I wanted to bring myself into focus on something relevant and with great potential impact. I considered themes like antimicrobial resistance—what is becoming a global health crisis—and the role of microbiomes in human health within the context of diseases such as cancer or autoimmune disorders. I also reviewed the study of emerging pathogens and their implications for public health. I found examination of recent literature, attending conferences, and discussing with faculty members useful in acquainting me with the current research gaps that would be addressed in my thesis. One must choose a topic in which one is genuinely interested; it will keep one going throughout the journey of research. Moreover, the choice of an application-oriented topic may further increase the value of your work both for the scientific community and beyond. If you are in the stage of choosing a topic, I would therefore encourage you to narrow the areas that excite you and have potential to contribute either new knowledge or solutions for existing problems in the field of microbiology.
